PE and Sports Grant

The Government is spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16. This money has been, and will be, directly allocated to schools.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

·         Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons

·         Support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs

·         Provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers

·         Run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games

·         Run sports activities with other schools

The money was spent on:

·         Providing high quality PE coaching by professional coaches to increase attainment in PE and develop teachers’ skills.

·         Providing a range of enrichment activities after school to give pupils more opportunity to engage in sports and fitness activities. Clubs included football,  

          multi sports and street dance.

·         Increasing children’s participation in inter school competitions by providing transport to take part in Futures and Tong Tournaments

·         Purchasing additional equipment to support whole class participation.

·         Subsidising a residential visits for children in Years 4 children which included outdoor and adventurous activities.

St Paul’s is committed to improving the health and well being of all pupils and as such spends more than the allocated grant on PE and sports provision.

Impact of grant:

·         Teacher confidence in teaching PE is improved

·         Increased take up in the number of children attending after school PE activities

·         Children have access to a range of high quality PE equipment.

·         Children’s participation and interest in inter-school competitions have increased.

 Impact on standards will be monitored year on year to assess the impact of the grant over time.
